'Resign, Mr. Cuomo': New York Paper That Endorsed Governor Three Times Turns on Him

The Albany, New York, newspaper that endorsed Governor Andrew Cuomo three times is now demanding he resign alongside "those who helped him deceive the public" over COVID-19 nursing home deaths last year.

Based out of New York's capital city, the Times-Union editorial board blasted Cuomo for "pretending to come clean" amid about the true number of nursing home deaths that occurred—following the governor's controversial order to move patients from hospitals into nursing homes.

The newspaper published a lengthy, scathing editorial Saturday that said Cuomo "squandered the public's trust at a time when it's needed more than ever," citing his two-pronged nursing home and sexual harassment controversies.

The newspaper's editorial board said its decision to call for Cuomo's resignation was not made "lightly," as it highlighted its enthusiastic support of his past three gubernatorial campaigns.

"It is time for Mr. Cuomo to resign, and for those who helped him deceive the public to go, too," the Times-Union editorial board wrote in the opinion piece.

"He has brought to fruition a host of important progressive goals. But between his manipulation of state ethics bodies, multiple allegations of sexual harassment and these latest revelations on nursing home deaths, he has lost the credibility he needs to lead this state, especially in the midst of a public health crisis," the editors continued.
